Cocreating sustainability
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is an important component of business operations within the OPACKGROUP and all its companies, as are: Fardem Packaging (Edam), Flexpak (Geldermalsen), Oerlemans Plastics (Genderen and Giessen), OPI (Oosterwolde), Perfon (Goor), Plasthill (Hillegom) and Stempher (Rijssen). The signed self-declaration has been examined and assessed according to the process described in NPR 9026+C1:2012. It indicates that the organization applies the guidelines for socially responsible enterprising.
The self-declaration has come about in association with the NRK (the Dutch federation that looks after the interests of the Dutch rubber and plastics industry).
In 2013, the NRK started the project called Corporate Social Responsibility according to ISO 26000. The OPACKGROUP companies have taken part in this CSR project, along with a number of other companies in this industry. By adhering to ISO 26000, the CSR policy has a framework within the organization. Various stakeholders have been involved in this NRK project. The seven core themes of ISO 26000 have been addressed in consultation with customers, suppliers, employees and their surroundings. The core themes are: Organizational governance – The environment – Fair operating practices – Human rights – Consumer issues – Labour practices – Community involvement.
All core themes are inextricably bound within the business operations of the organizations. The companies in the group pay much attention to occupational health and safety issues. They are all about the safety and health of the employees. The OHS policies are also reflected in the CSR policy. The environment is also reflected in this self-declaration. The companies of the OPACKGROUP have been innovative for many years, when it comes to developing sustainable packaging solutions: recyclable packaging of monomaterial, packaging that reduces thickness, biodegradable packaging, and bio-based packaging are just some examples of this policy.
